PROTECTION OF MAJHWAR COMMUNITY
3244. SHRI PRAVEEN KUMAR NISHAD:
Will the Minister of SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT be pleased to state:
(a) whether the population of the majhwar community was about 70 thousand in 1961 census and if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the number has come down to 3 to 4 thousand in Uttar Pradesh; and
(c) if so, the steps taken by the Government to protect the above mentioned community?

(a) to (c): Population of Majhwar community of Uttar Pradesh, as per 1961 and 2011 Censuses, was 69,133 and 23,123 respectively. A number of schemes are being implemented for social, economic and educational development of Scheduled Castes, which are also available to members of Majhwar community.
