(a) & (b) The Ministry of Water Resources has not initiated any scheme for “Strengthening Rural Water Management” during the current year. However, a Pilot scheme “ National Project for Repair, Renovation and Restoration of Water Bodies Directly Linked to Agriculture” has been approved by the Government of India at a total cost of Rs. 300 crore to be implemented during the remaining period of the Tenth Five Year Plan. Under the scheme, restoration of identified water bodies having original culturable command area of 40 hectares or more upto 2000 hectares is envisaged. The objectives of the scheme are to restore and augment the storage capacities of water bodies including repair of related structures like checkdams, weirs, bunds and water conveyance systems and to recover and extend their lost irrigation potential. The proposed funding pattern is 75:25 (Centre: State). The Central funding will be in the form of grant.
