Statement referred in reply to Parts (a) to (e) of the Lok Sabha Starred Question No. 386
for 20.12.2005 asked by Shri S. Ajaya Kumar, MP, regarding TRIFED Projects`
(a) to (e): The details of projects, the nodal agencies coordinating
with the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India
Limited (TRIFED) for the implementation of their projects and the extent
to which the tribal people have benefitted from these projects during
the last two years are given in the ANNEXURE. The physical and financial
parameters are set at the time of preparing the projects and the
progress is monitored by the Field Offices of TRIFED and by TRIFED,
Headquarters through periodic reviews during the course of implementation of the
projects.

Annexure referred in reply to Parts (a) to (e) of the Lok Sabha Starred Question No. 386
for answer on 20.12.2005 by Shri S. Ajaya Kumar, MP, regarding `TRIFED Projects`.
Names and other details of the Projects undertaken by TRIFED during the
last two years in various States, Nodal Agencies coordinating with TRIFED for
implementation and the number of tribal beneficiaries from these projects.

1. Karnataka Wild Honey Project: Vivekanand Girijail 2450 tribal Kalyan Kendra, Honey Hunters. The project on Economic Empowerment of the Tribal Karnataka State Lamp Honey Hunters through Skill Federation Upgradation in Collection & Extraction as well as The Mysore Resettlement Awareness of Processing and & Development Agency Marketing of Wild Honey has MYRADA commenced during 2004-05 in ITDP areas of the State of Swami Vivekanand Karnataka. The project Youth Movement, envisages training of tribals for scientific collection/ Karnataka State extraction of wild honey and Khadi & Village to providing them with protective clothing and equipments for the purpose.
The total cost of the project is Rs.101.00 lakhs out of which Ministry of Rural Deve- lopment has sanctioned an amount of Rs.96.40 lakhs under special SGSY Scheme.
2. Chhattisgarh Promotional Project of TRIFED office at It has generated Cultivation and Marketing of Jagdalpur. employment for Medicinal Plants at Jagdalpur, 4862 man-days Dist. Bastar: during 2004-05 and 2485 mandays This project has the following till 14.12.2905 objectives: training tribal during 2005-06. farmers about multiplication of seeds, slips and sapling manuring, irrigation, harvesting, processing, value addition, packaging, storage and marketing of Safed Muksli and Amla.
The period of the Project is two years i.e. from 2004 to 2006. The Project is being taken up with the financial assistance of National Medicinal Plants Board, New Delhi.
Value Addition & Intelgrated TRIFED office at During the year Market Development of Hill Jagdalpur. 2004-05 it has Brooms: generated employ- ment of 1238 man-days.
This Project on was started for: - providing training oppor- tunities in value addition. - Creating value addition facilities at the procurement level so that remunerative prices could be provided to the tribal gatherers. - Employment generation for the tribal women for their economic betterment. - Opening up of market channel by providing market support to the product.
3. West Bengal, Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hastshilp West Bengal: West Bengal- Assam,Gujarat, Vikas Y ojana: Institute of Inter- 1023 (84 SHGs) Karnataka. national Development This Project for Development (IISD) of Tribal Handicraft is sponsored by the Office of the Tagore Society for Development Commissioner Rural Development (Handicrafts). (TSRD) Prem Bazar INITIATIVE KALYAN.
TRIFED has already completed Assam: Assam- the 1st phase of activity i.e. BOSCO Reach out. 843 (73 SHGs) `Social Intervention` by way of conducting Baseline Survey, Mobilisation and Formation of Self Help Groups (SHGs)
The 2nd phase of intervention Gujarat: Gujarat - 652 i.e. `Technological Inter- Bhasha Research & (51 SHGs) vention` by way of imparting Publication Centre Skill Up-gradation Training (BHASHA) (SUT) and organizing Design & Technical Development Workshop Karnataka: Karnataka- (DTDW) in 8 Crafts viz. Kantha Vivekananda Girijana 231 (17 SHGs) Stitch (in 2 batches), Textile Kalyana Kendra (VGKK), Batik, Leather Batik, Dokra Chamrajnagar. casting, Bamboo craft, Wood craft, Handmade paper craft and Sabai Grass craft have also been completed in West Bengal.

In order to meet the demand of tribal products for sale through these outlets, TRIFED sources products though its Regional offices from tribals. TRIFED empanels tribal artisan/suppliers for supplying different items to TRIBES shop. Presently 150 tribal artisan/organsiations are empanelled with TRIBES. These empanelled suppliers includes NGOs/Organisations which are associated with a number oftribals.
Tribal Artisan Melas (TAMs):
TRIFED initiated a new concept of organising Tribal Artisan Mela (TAM) as an exercise to source tribal art and craft directly from the tribal artisans/group of artisans.
