Question : IMPACT OF AGRICULTURE PRODUCTION ON GDP



(a) whether the decline in agricultural production is likely to have an impact on the Gross Domestic Product and economy of the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof during the last three years and the current year; and

(c) the reaction of the Government thereto?

(a) & (b): As there is no decline in agricultural production, it is not likely to have an impact on the Gross Domestic Product and economy of the country. Despite year on year fluctuations, the agricultural production (cereals, pulses and nine oilseeds) in the country is showing an increasing trend during 2007-08 to 2010-11 as per details given in the table below. Similarly Gross Domestic Product for the total economy has increased from Rs. 3898958 crore to Rs. 4877842 crore (at 2004-05 prices ) during the same period.
