Question : Nuclear Deal

(a) the number of countries with which India has signed nuclear deal during the last two years; and

(b) the current status of these deals signed with other countries of the world?

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES & PENSIONS AND PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE (Dr. JITENDRA SINGH):

(a)&(b) The Nuclear deal /agreements signed during the past two years are as follows:-

(i) Agreement between the Government of the Republic of India and the Government of the Peoples Republic of Bangladesh on Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy was signed on 08.04.2017. The said Agreement has enabled regular interactions between the two sides for capacity building and training for personnel in Bangladesh and extending consultancy services to Bangladesh by Global Centre for Nuclear Energy Partnership (GCNEP), a constituent unit of the Department of Atomic Energy(DAE).

(ii) General Framework Agreement (GFA) for implementation of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) - 5&6 (2X1000 MW) at Kudankulam, Tamil Nadu with Atomstroyexport, Russian Federation was signed in June 2017. Following the signing of the GFA, contracts were signed for long delivery equipment, priority equipment and first priority design of KKNPP- 5&6 and work is in progress.

(iii) Industrial Way Forward Agreement (IWFA) with EDF, France for setting up six Light Water Reactors (6X1650 MW) at Jaitapur, Maharashtra was signed in March 2018. Discussion within the framework of IWFA are progressing well.
