Examination during the last three years, State-wise;
(b) the role played by the Government in encouraging and assisting such children in
their education; and
(c) the new proposals, if any, to take further the measures being taken by the
Government in this regard?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
(SHRI RAMESH POKHRIYAL ‘NISHANK’)

(a) to (c): Education is a subject in the Concurrent List of the Constitution and majority
of schools are under the jurisdiction of the State Governments / Union Territories
Administrations. As such, the data of destitute/ orphan children passing High School
examination through various State/ Central Boards is not centrally maintained. For
facilitating the education of children at the elementary level, the government through the
Integrated Scheme of Samagra Shiksha has been encouraging and assisting the states
in ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education as mandated under RTE Act,
2009.
