Question : Expansion of Shri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport

(a) whether Shri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport at Amritsar is the largest airport in Punjab;
(b) whether the Government has any plans to expand the integrated passenger terminal building and if so, the time by which it is likely to commence work; and
(c) whether the Government plans to lease out the Amritsar Airport on Public-Private Partnership and if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b): Shri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport at Amritsar is the largest airport in Punjab in terms of land area and runway length. Development and up-gradation of airports is a continuous process and is undertaken by Airports Authority of India (AAI) from time to time depending upon commercial viability, traffic demand, availability of land etc. ;
(c): The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has identified Amritsar airport among 13 airports for operations, management and development of the airport through Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode in the public interest and for better management of the airport.
