(a) whether the Government proposes to set up more Rashtriya Military Schools and Sainik Schools in the country including Punjab and Uttar Pradesh;
(b) if so, the details thereof, State / UT-wise;
(c) the criteria / guidelines laid down for opening of Military and Sainik Schools in the country; and
(d) the details of financial assistance provided to Military and Sainik Schools during each of the last three years and the current year, year-wise?

(a) & (b): There is no proposal to set up more Rashtriya Military Schools in the Country. In-Principle approval has been accorded / Memorandum of Agreement signed with the State Governments for setting up of 13 new Sainik Schools as per details given in Annexure-I, which also includes details in respect of Uttar Pradesh. As regard Punjab, no proposal for opening of new Sainik School in the State is under consideration.
(c) There are no laid down criteria / guidelines for opening of Rashtriya Military Schools in the Country. Establishment of new Sainik Schools is considered on receipt of a specific request from the State Government, which is required to provide infrastructure in the form of land, educational and residential buildings, sports field etc.
(d) The year-wise details of financial assistance provided to Rashtriya Military Schools and Sainik Schools during the last three years and the current year, year-wise are given in Annexure-II.
