Question : DISCOVERIES OF OIL BLOCKS ABROAD

(a) whether public/private sector companies have discovered crude oil and natural gas discoveries in foreign countries during the last three years and the current year;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the present status of commercial production in these gas blocks, oil-fields, country/company-wise including private/ Public Sector Companies;

(c) whether the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (OMGC)/ONGC Videsh Limited/private companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with various countries particularly from Vietnam, Siberia and Mozambique to acquire oilfields/gas blocks and supply of natural gas and crude oii to India; and

(d) if so, the details thereof along with the time by which exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas from these oil-fields/gas blocks are likely to be started, country/ company- wise?

(a)& (b): Yes, Madam.

The details of discovered crude oil and natural gas discoveries in foreign countries by public sector oil and gas companies during the last three years and the current year are placed at Annexure A.

Records with regard to private sector Indian oil and gas companies are not maintained.

(c) & (d): No, Madam. However, ONGC Videsh has signed MOUs for mutual cooperation in the area of exploration and production of hydrocarbon in India and other countries. Participating Interests in various oilfields/gas blocks abroad acquired through contracts by ONGC/ONGC Videsh are at Annexure B.
