Question : Upgradation of NHs

(a) whether Government is planning to convert certain State Highways into National Highways (NHs);

(b) if so, the details thereof and whether such highways which are to be converted are being identified, State/UT-wise;

(c) the amount of funds allocated for this conversion project, State/UT-wise;

(d) the total number of State Highways which have been converted into National Highways in the country including Uttar Pradesh during the financial year 2015-16, State/UT-wise; and

(e) the number of new State Highways proposed to be converted into National Highways during 2016-17?

(a) to (e) Expansion of National Highways (NHs) network is a continuous process and declaration of State roads as new NHs are taken up from time to time depending upon requirement of connectivity, inter-se priority and availability of funds. However, no funds are allocated to State/Union Territories (UTs) for such purpose. No State road in the State of Uttar Pradesh has been declared as new NH during the financial year 2015-16. The details of State roads Countrywide which have been converted into NHs in the country during the financial year 2015-16 are annexed.
