Question : POWER GENERATION



(a) the total power generation in both the Hydel and Thermal sectors in the country by the end of the Eighth Five Year Plan as against the installed capacity in this regard;

(b) the comparative ratio of consumption of power in the industrial, agriculture and domestic sectors as against the demand thereof;

(c) the comparative rise in the cost of power generation and the consequential rise in the power tariffs in the country;

(d) the estimated planned targets set for the power generation in both the thermal and hydel sectors for the Ninth Plan period; and

(e) the comparative ratio of power availability in the industrial, agricultural and domestic sectors?

(a) : The installed capacity and energy generation in Hydel and Thermal sectors in the country at the end of 8th Five Year Plan i.e. 1996-97 is given below:

(b) : The actual consumption (restricted) was 82%, 99% and 87% of the consumption estimated as per the 15th Electric Power Survey Committee Report in the industrial, agricultural and domestic sectors respectively.

(c) : The details are given in Annexure-I,II and III.

(d) : As per mid-term review, feasible capacity addition during 9th Plan is 28097.2 MW comprising of 8399.2 MW from Hydro, 18818 MW from Thermal and 880 MW from Nuclear.

(e) : The comparative ratio of the actual power available in the industrial, agricultural and domestic sectors during the period 1995-96, 1996-97 and 1997-98 is given at Annexure-IV.
