Question : ROLLING STOCKS



(a) whether the Railways are facing any problems in replacing the old and obsolete rolling stocks which are prone to creating serious threats to the passengers;

(b) if so, the steps taken/being taken by the Railways in this regard; and

(c) the present status of setting up of proposed rail factories in the State of Odisha?

(a) & (b) No, Madam. Rolling Stocks including coaches are replaced on attaining prescribed codal life. Moreover, before putting these rolling stock in to service, prescribed maintenance and upkeep is ensured as per laid down schedule.

(c) A wagon manufacturing factory in Odisha has been sanctioned at an anticipated cost of Rs. 176.73 crores in Railway Budget 2012-13 in Public Private Participation mode.
