Question : New Education Policy

(a) whether the Government proposes to formulate New Education Policy in order to
strengthen the education system in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) if not, the reasons therefor;
(d) whether the Government proposes to set up National Education Council in place of
National Education Commission;
(e) if so, the details thereof; and
(f) whether the Government has set up any time limit for this and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (f): The Committee for the Draft National Education Policy under the Chairmanship
of Dr. K. Kasturirangan submitted its report to the Ministry on 31st May 2019. The Draft
NEP 2019 report contains various recommendations for equitable access to quality
education. The Draft NEP 2019 which was uploaded on the Ministry’s website and also at
innovate.mygov.in platform has received a large number of suggestions/comments from all
stakeholders including Government of India Ministries and State Governments. The process
of finalizing the National Education Policy after further review and consultations is
currently ongoing and it is expected to be submitted for necessary approval shortly.
