Question : DEPLOYMENT OF NDRF IN SIKKIM



(a) whether the Government has rushed a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) with necessary equipment to carry out relief operations during the recent earthquake in Sikkim;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the number of persons rescued by the team;

(d) whether any training is imparted to them to meet the challenges of acclimatisation in the mountains areas; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) Yes, Madam. 10 teams of NDRF comprising of 403 rescuers were mobilized and sent immediately with the specialized Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue (CSSR) and Medical First Responder(MFR) equipments such as Diamond chain saw, Carbide tipped chain saw, Circular saw, Handsaw, angle cutter, bolt cutter, rotary hammer drill-, cordless drill hammer, electronic drill machine, air lifting bag with cylinder 03, victim locating camea-05, life detector type-1-02, life detector type-11-03, personal alert safety system, MFR kit etc. to the earthquake affected areas of Sikkim.

(c) NDRF retrieved 06 dead bodies trapped inside collapsed buildings. NDRF also provided treatment to 802 victims including 07 critically injured victims.

(d) & (e) Yes madam. NDRF personnel are being imparted regular training in Mountaineering Search and Rescue Operation training in different institutes like Swami Vivekananda Institute of Mountaineering Mount Abu(Rajasthan), Himalayan Mountaineering Institute Darjeeling(WB) Himalayan Adventure Institute Mussoorie and Nehru Institute of Mountaineering Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand)
