Question : SCHEMES FOR OLD AGE PERSONS



(a) whether the Government are giving financial assistance to voluntary organizations for establishing and maintaining Old Age Homes, Day Care Centres, Mobile Medicare Units and for supporting and strengthening non-institutional services for the aged persons;

(b) whether the Planning Commission had allocated Rs.54.62 crore to the schemes for Ninth Five Year Plan (1997-2001);

(c) if so, whether Ministry utilized the entire amount for the purpose;

(d) if not, the reasons therefor;

(e) whether the Ministry has not yet identified the organizations through which they would implement the scheme for the Old Age Persons; and

(f) if so, the reasons therefor?

(a) Yes, Sir.


(b) The total fund allocated for the scheme during the Ninth Five Year Plan (1997- 2002) is Rs. 56.34 crores.


(c) & (d) The Ministry has so far (upto 11-3-2002) utilized about 87 percent of the allocation.


(e) & (f) The scheme is being implemented by 609 non-governmental organizations, running 391 Old Age Homes, 469 Day Care Centres, 83 Mobile Medicare Units and 2 Non-Institutional Service Centres.
