Question : TERRORISM DRUG TRAFFICKING



(a) whether the British Home Secretary who visited India recently has offered their services to counter terrorism and drug trafficking;

(b) if so, the details in this regard;

(c) whether some agreements have also been finalised;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the extent to which the Britain propose to help India in this regard?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (CH. VIDYASAGAR RAO)

(a) & (b): A British delegation headed by Mr. Jack Straw, Secretary of State for Home Affairs, Government of the UK, called on the Union Home Minister on 4.9.2000. Among other matters, the subjects of counter terrorism and need for prevention of drug trafficking were discussed.

(c), (d) & (e): The Government of UK are considering our proposal to set up institutionalised arrangements for mutual co-operation to fight terrorism.
