(a) & (b)The Central Zoo Authority has issued a Guideline for management and maintenance of elephants in Circuses. The Circuses displaying any wild animals listed under Schedule I, II, III and IV of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 are required to get recognition under Section 38H(1) of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 from the Central Zoo Authority for its display. The elephant is listed under Schedule I of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
As on date, there is no Circus in the country recognised under Section 38H(1) of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 for display of wild animals listed under Schedule I to IV of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
