Question : ENCROACHMENT ON HISTORICAL MONUMENTS .



(a) Whether Sarai Shahji, Shivalik Malviya Nagar, New Delhi a Mugal period monuments declared as National heritage has been occupied unauthorisedly;

(b) If so, whether the Government has received any representations in this regard; and

(c) If so, the action taken by the Government for removal of un-authorised occupation from these historic monuments and to develop the same like all other such monuments in Delhi?

MINISTER FOR TOURISM AND CULTURE (SHRIMATI AMBIKA SONI)

(a) Yes, Sir. The protected area of the monument is partly encroached upon prior to declaration of the monument as of national importance in May 1988.

(b)&(c) The Archaeological Survey of India has initiated action for removal of the encroachment in accordance with the provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 and the Rules constituted thereunder. The site has been surveyed jointly by the district authorities, police and the Archaeological Survey of India. The matter of eviction of the encroachers has been taken up with the District Task Force which is constituted under the orders of the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi for removal of encroachers from protected monuments.
