Question : Amendment in Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act


(a) whether the Government has mooted amendments to the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act allowing an individual terrorist to be included in the Schedule of banned entities;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to amend the NIA Act;

(d) if so, the extent to which this step of the Government is likely to curb terrorism in the country; and

(e) the steps taken or being taken by the Government to ensure that innocent persons are not harrassed under these Acts?

(a) & (b): The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Bill 2019 containing proposals to amend the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 has been introduced in the Lok Sabha on 8th July, 2019 and notice for consideration and passing the same has also been sent.

(c) to (e): The National Investigation Agency (Amendment) Bill, 2019 containing proposals to amend the National Investigation Act, 2008 has been introduced in the Lok Sabha on 8th July, 2019 and notice for consideration and passing the same has also been sent.
