STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY OF PARTS (a) to (c) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. *134 (14th POSITION) FOR ANSWER ON 12.02.2019 REGARDING SMART CITY PROJECTS.
(a)to (c) : 100 cities have been selected for development as Smart cities in four rounds as below:
? 20 Smart Cities in Round 1 in January 2016
? 13 Smart Cities in Fast Track (FT) Round 2 in May 2016
? 27 Smart Cities in Round 2 in September 2016
? 30 Smart Cities in Round 3 in June 2017
? 10 Smart Cities in Round 4 in January 2018 and June 2018.
A total of 5,151 projects worth Rs. 2,05,018 crore have been included by the selected 100 cities in their Smart City Proposals (SCPs). These projects are executed through convergence of resources from Central/State Government/Local Body as well as externally funded Schemes/projects. It also envisages around 20% of funding through Public Private Partnerships (PPPs).
So far, Rs. 15,536 crore have been released by the Central government to State governments/Union Territories (UTs) for Smart cities. As on January 25, 2019, 2,748 projects worth Rs. 1,04,964 crore have been tendered, of which 2,032 projects worth Rs. 62,295 crore are under implementation/have been completed. Under the Mission, funds have been spent on projects/areas of Integrated Command and Control Centres, Design and construction of complete streets, Public Bike Sharing, Urban Transport, Riverfront/lakefront development, Placemaking, Smart water and wastewater, Smart solar, Solid waste management, Rejuvenation of public spaces etc.
The timeline for completion of projects, as given in SCPs of Smart Cities is five years from the date of their selection.
