THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS (SHRI AJAY MAKEN)

b) The beautification, renovation and repair works of all the stadia for Commonwealth Games were completed on time except Shivaji Stadium which is yet to be completed.

c) As informed by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), the reasons for the delay in completion of Shivaji Stadium are as under:

(i) There were Shops, Restaurants, Kiosks etc. falling in the alignment of the project. While making arrangements of their allotment, cancellation or its shifting, the allottee of Clock Tower Restaurant went to the court against NDMC. The delay was on account of the matter being before the Court and getting possession of the encumbrance free site that caused major constraint in completion of the work as per planned schedule.

(ii) The existing Electric Sub Station and Municipal Under Ground Reservoir/Water Boosting Station on this plot of land, feeding adjoining area were also to be constructed in the basement of Shivaji Stadium and were to be made functional before demolishing and clearing this site for construction of stadium.

(iii) The project site is very restrictive and that needed extra efforts due to double handling of materials as well as shortage of space for execution and stacking of construction material.

(iv) Extra ordinary rains during the year 2010. Finishing work of building is in progress.

d) The NDMC has informed that the main pitch & facility block is likely to be completed by the end of September, 2011. The Warm up pitch is likely to be completed by the end of December, 2011.
