(SHRI ARUN SHOURIE)

(a) to (c): The concept of Common Economic Zone (CEZ) was initiated by the NCRPB in its meeting held on 2.9.1997 under the chairmanship of the then Prime Minister. The basic philosophy behind the concept of CEZ is to evolve a harmonised policy for balanced development of the entire National Capital Region (NCR) which require uniformity in the fiscal policy such as harmonization of taxes and tariff structure (sales tax, central sales tax, road tax, goods tax, octroi, tariff on services like power, water ) etc. The matter requires detailed discussions with the participating States and the Central Ministries. The meeting is yet to take place.
