Question : Hike in Prices of Coal

a) whether the Government has recommended to hike the prices of coal mined from new coal mines in the country;

b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;

c) whether the Government has made any assessment regarding the cost of production of coal mined from new and old coal mines; and

d) if so, the difference in the cost of production along with the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b) : After decontrol of coal prices w.e.f. 01.01.2000, the Coal India Limited (CIL) has been fixing the prices of all the grades of coal produced by its subsidiary companies.

(c) & (d) : CIL is a Maharatna Company which takes its own operational decisions including ones on cost of production of coal mined from new and old coal mines.
