Question : NEW SCHEME FOR POOR WOMEN



(a) whether Government has introduced any new schemes this year for the welfare of poor women;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(a) to (c): During 2010-11, the Ministry of Women & Child Development has launched “Indira Gandhi Matritva Sahyog Yojana (IGMSY)” – a Conditional Maternity Benefit (CMB) Scheme. The IGMSY has been approved in 52 selected districts on pilot basis. The scheme is meant to improve the health and nutrition status of pregnant and lactating (P&L) women, including poor women. It envisages providing Rs. 4,000/- in three installments to P&L women during pregnancy and lactation period in response to their fulfilling specific conditions linked to maternal and child care behaviour.
