Question : Nomination of MPs to Governing Body

(a) the posts for which nominations are made by the Government in the governing body of educational institutions coming under the purview of Ministry of Education;

(b) whether any eligibility criteria has been laid down by the Government for the said posts;

(c) if so, the details thereof along with the present process of nomination;

(d) whether the Government has taken any initaitives to nominate Members of Parliament as Directors and other posts in the governing body of these educational institutions;

(e) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (c) The Central Higher Educational Institutions under the purview of Ministry of Education are autonomous institutions set up by the Acts of Parliament. These Institutions are governed by their respective Acts, Statutes, Ordinances and Regulations made thereunder.

Board of Governors (BoGs) is the principal governing body of Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs) whereas Executive Council (EC) is the principal executive body of the Central Universities.

Nominations of the members in the governing body of educational institutions are made as per the provisions in Acts and Statutes of the institution. Usually, these are persons having special knowledge and practical experience in the field of education, engineering or science.

(d) & (e) Government has not taken any initaitives to nominate Members of Parliament as Directors and other posts in the governing body of these educational institutions. Nomination of members is purely governed by the provisions in respective Acts/Statutes.
