Question : Coach and Loco Manufacturing Facilities

(a) whether there is any proposal under the consideration of the Government for setting up of coach and loco manufacturing facilities for high speed rail in Gujarat;

(b) if so, the details thereof and its present status;

(c) whether there is any policy at present to support such an important manufacturing activity;

(d) if not, whether the Government plans to support high speed rail coach and loco manufacturing facilities in Gujarat by way of policy intervention; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) : Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (GIDB), a Government of Gujarat body, had submitted a proposal to Ministry of Railways evincing Government of Gujarat’s interest in locating the High Speed Rail Manufacturing unit at Dahod.

(c) to (e) : Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) project has been sanctioned for implementation with technical and financial assistance of Government of Japan. Procurement of High Speed rolling stock is an integral part of the project. The project envisages “Make in India” of rolling stocks i.e. manufacturing in India. Decision on precise location of manufacturing is premature at this stage.
