Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE (IC) FOR LABOUR AND EMPLOYMENT
(SHRI SANTOSH KUMAR GANGWAR)

(a): Yes, Sir.

(b): The New Series of Retail Inflation for Industrial Workers based on Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers has been updated with new base of 2016=100 replacing the old base of 2001=100 from September, 2020. The new series index is based on latest consumption pattern reflected by working class family income and expenditure survey (WCFI&ES) conducted in 88 industrially important centres during the year 2016. The scope and coverage of the new series has been extended in terms of number of centres, markets, outlets and items. As the dearness allowance payable to industrial workers are linked to CPI-IW, the earnings and livelihood of Industrial workers will interalia, depend on the actual movement in CPI-IW on month to month basis.

(c): It has been put into operation from September, 2020.
