Question : Establishment of Power Projects from Waste

(a) whether any scheme of establishing power projects from waste is being implemented or any initiative is being taken in this regard;

(b) if so, the number of units established so far, State-wise;

(c) this quantum of power produced from the power projects established from the wastes generated by municipalities and industries during the last three years, State-wise;

(d) whether the Government proposes to consider any long–term plan/programme to generate more power from such wastes; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a): Yes, Madam. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) is implementing the Programme “Energy from Urban, Industrial and Agricultural Wastes / Residues”. The main objective of the programme is to promote setting up of projects for recovery of energy including power generation from urban, industrial and agricultural wastes.

(b): State-wise details of number of projects set up and cumulative installed capacities, as on 30.06.2017, is given at Annexure-I.

(c): A cumulative installed capacity of 45.40 MW from 18 projects has been set up during the last three years by the private sector industries. State-wise details of number of projects set up and cumulative installed capacities, during the last three years, are given at Annexure-II.

(d) & (e): MNRE has set a target of 25 MW equivalent energy / power generation under the said programme during the current financial year 2017-18.
