STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF STARRED QUESTION NO. 432 ASKED BY SHRI P. KUMARASAMY TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 24.08.2000 REGARDING IDENTIFICATION OF SURPLUS RAILWAY LAND FOR COMMERCIAL USE.

(a)& (b) : Railways do not have any surplus land. Railways have, however, decided to utilise air space over its land/stations for commercial use, to garner resources for its developmental schemes. Railways have identified a few properties in Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

(c ) & (d): Commercial development of Railway land /air space at other sites will be taken up in phases, after gaining experience on the sites taken up in the First Phase.
