Question : Skill Development in Tamil Nadu

a) the details of the target of the Government to skill the people during the year 2021-22, particularly in Tamil Nadu; and

b) the extent to which it has been achieved during the aforesaid period along with the details district wise; especially Salem?

Answer given by the minister

(a) The schemes of the Ministry are demand-driven and, hence, targets are often not set State-wise. However, Under Skill India Mission, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship(MSDE) has been delivering short term skills through Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) Scheme and National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and long term skills through Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (Women) [NSTI (W)], to the youth belonging to all sections of the society across the country including in Tamil Nadu.
At the district level, PMKKs are run under the PMKVY (in 722 districts at present) and JSSs are run under the JSS (in 304 districts at present) for implementation of the concerned schemes.
(b) Even though there is no system of setting any target of skilling for Districts/States/Country as whole, the district-wise details of number of people skilled during the year 2021-22 in Tamil Nadu including Salem in different schemes of MSDE viz. PMKVY, JSS, CTS/ITIs and NAPS are attached at Annexure-I, Annexure-II, Annexure-III and Annexure-IV respectively. It is to be noted that in the year 2021-22, skilling was impacted by covid.
