Question : CBI INQUIRY ON DECREASING TIGER POPULATION



(a) whether the Government has entrusted to the CBI the probe into the dwindling tiger population due to poaching in some States;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the progress made so far, in this direction; and

(d) the steps being taken by the Government to improve tiger population in each State?

(a), (b) & (c) Time and again, in specific instances of tiger poaching/seizures, the States are advised to transfer such cases to the CBI, considering their national/international ramification.

(d) The milestone initiatives taken by the Government to protect the tiger are at Annexure-I.
