Question : FLOOD CONTROL



(a) whether National Thermal Power Corporation has engaged WAPCOS to take remedial measures of flood water stagnation problem around Farakka plant;

(b) if so, whether WAPCOS has submitted any report;

(c) if so, whether the NTPC has accepted the report; and

(d) if so, the details thereof and the action taken thereon?

DETAILS OF THE REPORT SUBMITTED BY WAPCOS (I) LTD. AND THE ACTION TAKEN THEREON


Main recommendations of M/S WAPCOS (I) Ltd. in its report to tackle the problem are as under:-

1.	Construction of additional outfall structures between railway line & Ash Dyke;	on the northern side of ash dyke and; Trimohini Nallah out fall.

2. Augmentation of existing drainage around Ash Dykes

3. Relocation of existing ash slurry pipe bridge

4. Regulation of flow from Farakka Barrage to Feeder Canal during floods

5. Clearing the obstruction created by the abandoned railway embankment 6. Adequate protection measures as identified in the report.


Implementation of the above recommendations requires action by multiple agencies like Farakka Barrage Project Authority (FBPA), Eastern Railways, State Irrigation Department/Central Water Commission, etc. NTPC has taken up the matter of increasing drainage points with FBPA.
