(a) the details of the amount granted to the Universities for scientific research in the country during the last three years, year-wise and University-wise:

(b) whether there is any criteria for the selection of Universities for these grants; and

(a): The University Grants Commission (UGC) provides grants to Universities & Colleges declared fit to receive grants as per Section 12B of the UGC Act, 1956, for general development fellowships/scholarships and Research Projects which are directly or indirectly supporting Scientific Research. It also has started a scheme for promoting Basic Scientific Research exclusively. The details of the grants released to the Universities by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for Basic Scientific Research, during the last three years, are as under:

The details, university wise, of the above grants are available in the Annual Reports of the UGC, which are laid in Parliament from time to time.

(b) & (c): Those Universities which are assisted under the Special Assistance Programme (SAP) of UGC, are also eligible for support from the UGC under the Basic Scientific Research Scheme.
