Question : Demolition of Ravidas Temple

(a) whether the demolition of centuries old Ravidas temple by the Government’s authorities in Delhi has recently provoked massive public outburst and anger;

(b) if so, the details thereof along with the Government’s action thereon;

(c) whether the Government has investigated the role of Government officers in the above incident;

(d) if so, the details thereof along with the Government’s action thereon;

(e) whether the Government has agreed to allot the same piece of land for reconstruction of Ravidas Shrine;

(f) if so, the details thereof; and

(g) the other corrective steps being taken by the Government to protect the religious rights and sentiments of dalits?

(a) to (f): The demolition of Ravidas temple by the DDA in Delhi had provoked public outburst & anger, in a section of the society, which organised protests,

dharnas, fast unto death etc. at various places in Delhi. As per the Order passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India on 21.10.2019 in M.A. No.1384/2019 in SLP(C) No.7500 of 2019, the Government has offered 400 sq. mtr. of land at the same site for worship.

(g): The field staff of Delhi Police has been sensitised and the District DCsP have been instructed to ensure adequate patrolling of the sensitive areas to keep a watch on mischief mongers to prevent any such malicious attempts.
