Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY( AYUSH) be pleased to state:
(a) whether the main objective of National Rural Health Mission is to revive indigenous traditional healthcare systems and AYUSH so as to strengthen public health system at every level;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the action plan envisaged to revive indigenous traditional healthcare systems?

(a) & (b): Mainstreaming of AYUSH & Revitalising local health traditions into public health system is one of the objective as envisaged in Framework for Implementation for NRHM. The Mainstreaming of AYUSH is one of the core strategies in National Rural Health Mission which seeks to provide accessible, affordable and quality health care to the rural population. Under National Health Mission (NHM)/ National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), engagement of Ayurveda Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) doctors/ paramedics is being supported, provided they are co-located with existing District Hospitals (DHs), Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) with priority given to remote PHCs and CHCs. Support for AYUSH medicines is also being provided at the AYUSH collocated health facilities. Information Education Communication (IEC)/ Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) activities for AYUSH are also being supported under NHM/NRHM.
NHM/NRHM also supports Skilled Birth Attendant (SBA), Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD) & Post Partum Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device (PPIUCD) trainings of AYUSH doctors to address the shortage of skilled health care personnel in the rural areas. AYUSH doctors are also being engaged under Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK).
The State /UT wise AYUSH doctors/ paramedics engaged under NHM, Number of co-located Health facilities supported under NHM are placed at Annexure 1 and Annexure 2 respectively. The NHM/NRHM is implemented by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare whereas National AYUSH Mission (NAM) is implemented by Ministry of AYUSH.
(c): Under Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM), the Government of India provides financial assistance to State/UT Governments for Co-location of AYUSH facilities at PHCs, CHCs and District Hospitals, Upgradation of existing Government AYUSH Hospitals and Dispensaries, Setting up of new upto 50 bedded integrated AYUSH Hospitals, Supply of essential drugs to AYUSH Hospitals and Dispensaries, Public Health Outreach activity and School Health Programme. Through all these activities, it is envisaged to revive the AYUSH Healthcare system.
