Question : DEMAND FOR SERVICES OF PHYSIOTHERAPISTS



(a) whether the demand for services of physiotherapists in the country is increasing;

(b) if so, whether the Government have made any assessment regarding the number of physiotherapists needed in Government hospitals in the country and appointed physiotherapists in its hospitals;

(c) if so, the details thereof and the number of posts lying vacant in Central Government hospitals in Delhi with names of these hospitals;

(d) whether any council has been established to regulate the profession of physiotherapy; and

(e) if not, whether the Government propose to establish any such council so that problems related to the profession could be solved?

(a)&(b): The Government is conscious of the fact that as a result of increasing population, the demand for services of Medical Professionals at large is increasing and so is the demand of Physiotherapists who are Para-Medical Professionals assisting the Medical Professionals in the management of patients. The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation exists in all the three Central Governemnt Hospitals in Delhi viz., Safdarjung Hospital, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Lady Hardinge Medical College and Hospital. However, no specific survey has so far been carried out to assess the requirement of physiotherapists in the country.


(c): The number of posts of Physiotherapists lying vacant in Central Governemnt Hospitals in Delhi is given below:
