Question : Tissue Culture based Farming

(a) whether the Government has any promotional scheme for farmers in tissue culture based farming;

(b) if so, the complete details thereof; and

(c) if not, whether the Government is formulating any scheme for growing seeds and plants using tissue culture based techniques so as to get good quality of farm produce and double the farmers’ income?

(a) & (b): Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), a centrally sponsored scheme being implemented for the holistic development of the horticulture sector throughout the country. All States and UTs are covered under MIDH.

Under MIDH, credit linked back ended subsidy is provided for setting up of Tissue Culture (TC) units for production of planting material @ 100% of total cost to public sector and 40% in case of private sector for the maximum cost of Rs. 250 lakh/unit. Assistance is also provided for strengthening of existing TC units @ 100% of total cost to public sector and 40% in case of private sector for the maximum cost of Rs. 20 lakh/unit.

Apart from the above, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) horticultural institutes have developed Tissue Culture protocols for various horticulture crops like banana, potato, pomegranate, oilpalm, spices, areacanut, coconut etc.
