Question : Schemes for Development of Animal Husbandry

a) the schemes likely to be formulated by the Government for the development of animal husbandry in Rajasthan as besides agriculture animal husbandry sector is also a good source of income for farmers;

b) the facilities likely to be offered by the Government to farmers under this scheme;

c) whether the Government has any plan to promote dairy industry and if so, the details thereof;

d) whether there is any scheme in place to help farmers during the non-productive period of cows and buffaloes; and

e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (e) In order to complement and supplement the efforts of the States/UTs for development of animal husbandry sector, the Government is implementing various schemes across the country including Rajasthan namely;
I. Rashtriya Gokul Mission,
II. National Programme for Dairy Development,
III. National Dairy Plan-I,
IV. Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme
V. Dairy Processing and Infrastructure Development Fund,
VI. Supporting Dairy Cooperatives and Farmer Producer Organizations engaged in dairy activities
VII. National Livestock Mission,
VIII. Livestock Health and Disease Control

Apart from this, the Government has formulated a National Action Plan for Dairy Development with following objectives –

• To increase the national milk production from 163.7 MMT in 2016-17 to 254.55 MMT by 2021-22 for meeting the increasing milk demand by domestic milk production and also ensuring nutritional security at household level
• To double milk producers’ income at farm level by 2021-22 by providing rural milk producers with greater access to the organised milk processing sector
