Question : APP BASED CABS TAXIS IN DELHI

(a) whether the Government had imposed a ban on operation of Application based cabs/ taxis recently in the NCT of Delhi;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether it is a fact that despite the ban, several App-based cabs/taxis were still in operation in NCT of Delhi;

(d) if so, the number of App-based cabs/ taxis impounded/fined by the Delhi Police after the ban was imposed and the steps taken by the Government to provide safe transport facilities to women; and

(e) the steps taken by the Delhi Police to check illegal activities of such cabs/taxis in the NCT of Delhi?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI HARIBHAI PARATHIBHAI CHAUDHARY)

(a) to (b): Government of NCT of Delhi had issued a public notice on 08.12.2014, vide which transport/ taxi service providers through web based technology, who are not recognized, have been prohibited from providing such services in the NCT of Delhi to public till they get license / permission from the Transport Department, GNCT of Delhi.

(c) to (e): Transport Department of GCNT of Delhi and Delhi Police are taking regular legal action against such unauthorized app based cabs/taxies which are not licensed by the Transport Department of GNCT of Delhi. Staff of Delhi Traffic Police has been directed to ensure that no such cab should be allowed in Delhi.

Transport Department, GNCT of Delhi have impounded 121 such cab/taxis. Delhi Police has informed that they do not have separate data regarding prosecution of App-based cabs/ taxis. However, details of prosecution of taxis/ cabs during the year 2014 and 2015 (up to 15.2.15) are at Annexure.
