Question : NH in Gujarat

(a) whether it is a fact that National Highways network runs along the coastal areas of the country except in parts of Gujarat, if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government has received the proposals from Gujarat Government for upgradation of State Highways and Coastal Highways to NHs; and

(c) if so, the steps taken by the Government to upgrade the State and Coastal Highways across the country?

(a) to (c) The Ministry keeps on receiving proposals for declaration of various State road stretches, including those along coastline, from various States/Union Territories (UTs) including from the State of Gujarat, as new National Highways (NHs). The Ministry considers declaration of State Roads as new NHs from time to time keeping in view the requirement of connectivity, inter-se-priority and availability of funds.

Existing NHs 8A, 8E and 228 in the State of Gujarat inter-alia runs along coastal areas. Further the Ministry has approved “In-Principle” a length of about 563 km of State roads in coastal area in Gujarat as new NHs subject to the outcome of Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation. The details of these stretches are as follows:-

1 Maliya(on NH 27)-Amaran-Dhrol-Jamnagar-Khambhaliya-Dwarka-Okha road (NH 51)

2 Bhavnagar (on NH 51)-Dholera-Vataman junction-Fatehpur-Khambhat-Gambhira bridge-Karjan (on NH 48)

3 Narayan Sarovar (on NH 41)-Lakhpat

4 Dwarka (on NH 51)-Okha-Bet Dwarka including Signature bridge
