Question : Aadhaar Card to NRIs

Will the Minister of ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government proposes to provide the facility of Aadhaar Card to NRIs;

(b) if so, the time by which the said facility is likely to be implemented;

(c) the documents which are likely to be considered valid for issuing Aadhaar card to NRIs; and

(d) the number of such persons so far issued Aadhaar card under the said system?

Answer given by the minister

(a): Yes, Sir. Non Resident Indian (NRI) shall be entitled to obtain Aadhaar number after arrival in India.

(b): Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has already implemented facility of such Aadhaar enrolment for NRIs w.e.f. 20th September, 2019.

(c): Valid Indian Passport is accepted as Proof of Identity (PoI), Proof of Address (PoA) and Date of Birth (DoB).

While, the Indian Passport is mandatory as PoI document for NRI, other valid PoA and DoB documents available to a Resident in Schedule-II of Aadhaar (Enrolment & Update) Regulations, 2016 and amendments thereunder, are accepted from NRI also.

(d): As on 14th November 2019, over 2800 Aadhaar have been generated to NRIs.
