Question : Indigenous Production of Solar Panels-Equipment

(a) whether solar panels/equipment used for generation of solar energy are being imported;
(b) if so, the details thereof indicating the quantity/number of solar panels imported during each of the last three years and the current year along with the countries from where these solar panels/ equipment are being imported including the funds incurred for the purpose;
(c) whether the Government proposes to produce solar panels/equipment indigenously in the country; and
(d) if so, the details thereof along with the incentives being given by the Government to the manufacturers for the purpose and if not, the reasons therefor?

Statement

Statement referred to in reply to parts (a), (b), (c) & (d) of the Lok Sabha Starred Question No. 358 for answer on 13.08.2015 regarding Indigenous Production of Solar Panels/
Equipment.


(a): Both domestically manufactured as well as imported panels/equipments are being used.
(b): The quantity/number of solar panels imported during each of the last three years and the current year along with the countries from where thesesolar panelsare imported is given in Annexure. These panels have been imported by developers. Hence there was no expenditure on part of the Government.
(c)&(d): Total annual installed domestic manufacturing capacity of the Solar cells and Modules is 1328 MW & 2523 MW respectively. The incentives being given by the Government to the manufacturers are as under:
i. A provision of domestic content requirement in various schemes to source cells and modules of domestic origin.

ii. Reduction/Exemption of Custom and Excise duty on several input raw materials required for manufacturing of cells and modules.

iii. Capital subsidy for manufacturers under Special Incentive Package Scheme (SIPS) & Modified Special Incentive Package Scheme (M-SIPS) by Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY).
