Question : POLICY ON ORGANIC FARMING



(a) whether the Government has any policy on organic farming in the country;

(b) if so, the steps taken by the Government to implement the aforesaid policy;

(c) if not, whether the Government proposes to formulate any policy in this regard; and

(d) if so, the details thereof ?

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRIES (SHRI ARUN YADAV)

(a) to (d): The Government has a National Policy on organic farming which seeks to promote technically sound, economically viable, environmentally non-degrading and socially acceptable use of natural resources in favour organic agriculture.

To encourage and facilitate organic farming in the country the Government has launched a `National Project on Organic Farming`(NPOF) during 2004-05.
