(a): As per the information received from various NCLP Districts, at present, there are 5167 Special Training Centres operational under NCLP Scheme with an enrollment of 2,35,583 children. The details are at Annexure.
(b): For rehabilitation of rescued children, Government is implementing the National Child Labour Project (NCLP) Scheme since 1988 in the areas of high concentration of the child labour with a view to withdraw children working in hazardous occupations and processes, and mainstream them into formal education system.
Rehabilitation of working children is the direct responsibility of the district project societies. Under this scheme survey is conducted by Project Societies at district level to identify children working in hazardous occupations and processes. Children rescued/withdrawn in the age group of 9-14 years are enrolled in the NCLP Special Training Centres, where they are provided with bridge education, vocational training, mid day meal, stipend, health care, etc. before being mainstreamed into formal education system. At present the Scheme is approved for 270 Districts in 21 States of the country.
(c) & (d): As Child Labour is an outcome of various socio-economic problems, the Government is taking various pro-active measures for economic rehabilitation of the families of child labour with convergence between ongoing developmental and welfare schemes of different Ministries/ Departments.
