Question : GLOBALISATION OF INDIAN SYSTEM OF MEDICINES



(a) whether the Government propose to globalise the traditional Indian system of medicine;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the steps taken by the Government in this regard; and

(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) (SHRI N.T. SHANMUGAM)
(a)to(d):Government is already taking many steps to propagate the Indian Systems of Medicines, namely, Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha and drugless therapies like Yoga and Naturopathy overseas. The following steps have been taken in this regard:-

(i) A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between India and Government of Russian Federation to collaborate in Research and Development of Ayurveda, Siddha and Homoeopathy Systems.

(ii) Experts of Ayurveda and other systems, representatives of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Department of Indian Systems of Medicine & Homoeopathy) and representatives of industry have been participating in International Conferences, exhibitions and fairs.

(iii) Foreign students are given opportunity to undertake graduate and postgraduate course in Ayurveda and Homoeopathy in India.

(iv) International Conferences are being organized which are attended by the representatives/delegates from foreign countries.
