(a) to (d): National Mission on Food Processing (NMFP) was a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) launched in the 12th Plan with the objective of decentralization of Centrally Sponsored Scheme implementation by Ministry of Food Processing Industries for substantial participation of Sates to take into account the requirements suitable to local needs. The Mission was de-linked from Central Government assistance w.e.f. 01.04.2015 on account of increased resources of the States under 14th Finance Commission recommendations. The goals achieved under National Mission on Food Processing (NMFP) are at Annexure-I.
In order to take care of skilled manpower needs of food processing Sector in the country, Ministry of Food Processing Industries is implementing the scheme for Human Resources & Institutions under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY). Two academic institutions working under the administrative control of Ministry - National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship (NIFTEM) & Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT) are engaged in Skill Development activities apart from their regular professional courses like – B.Tech, M.Tech, Ph.d, etc.
(e): Under the Mission, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries used to place funds at the disposal of respective State Governments. State Level Empowered Committee (SLEC) chaired by Chief Secretary of the State had been vested with all the powers of approving / sanctioning of the applications received under NMFP from applicants / entrepreneurs. The details of food processing projects sanctioned till 02.03.2015 under the NMFP are at Annexure-I.
