Question : PURCHASE OF WIRELESS SET



(a) whether 400 Wireless handsets alongwith its accessories have been purchased by the Delhi Police in May, 1999;

(b) if so, the guidelines laid down for such purchases alongwith the sources of procurements;

(c) whether it has been reported that Eighty percent of these equipments are defective;

(d) if so, the details in this regard alongwith the reasons therefor;

(e) the total expenditure involved in such purchase;

(f) whether the defective sets have since been got replaced; (g) if so, the details thereof; and (h) if not, the action proposed to be taken against the guilty officials in the matter?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (CH.VIDYASAGAR RAO)

(a)to(h): Delhi Police placed order for supply of 286 hand held sets at an estimated cost of Rs.34,24,850/-excluding taxes and duty from M/s.Simoco Telecommunication (South Asia) Ltd. Calcutta on 4th January, 1999 and again for supply of 415 sets from M/s.Motorola India Limited, Bangalore on 2.1.99 and 19.3.99 at an estimated cost of Rs.46,68,750/-excluding taxes and duty. 50 hand sets from M/s Simoco Telecommunication (South Asia) Ltd. Were received during April, 99 and the remaining in the month of July, 1999. 305 hand held sets from M/s Motorola India Ltd. Were received in the month of May, 1999 and the remaining 110 sets in the month of June, 1999.

Delhi Police have instituted a vigilance inquiry into the purchase of these wireless sets with accessories.
