MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) OF THE MINISTRY OF CIVIL AVIATION (SHRI PRAFUL PATEL)

(a) to (e):- A Statement is laid on the Table of the House.

STATEMENT IN REPLY TO PARTS (a),(b),(c),(d) and (e) OF THE LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 321 FOR ANSWER ON 6.9.12007 REGARDING PERMISSION TO PRIVATE AIRLINES TO FLY ON INTERNATIONAL ROUTES.

(a):- National Aviation Company of India Limited, in which Indian Airlines and Air India have merged, is operating 1674 flights per week on domestic sector.

(b):- Private scheduled airlines are operating 8113 flights per week on domestic sector.

(c) and (d):- Yes Sir. The private scheduled carriers having continuous operations of at least 5 years in the domestic sector on the date of application and having a minimum fleet size of 20 aircraft are permitted to operate on international routes.

(e):- No revenue loss to public sector airlines is envisaged as there is a continuous need for capacity addition on international routes to cater to the existing and future traffic growth. This decision would not only enable the Indian Carriers (both public and private)to optimally utilize India`s entitlements but also help wean away traffic from the foreign airlines.
