STATEMENT IN RESPECT OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 129 REGARDING "AIRSTRIPS UNDER UDAN SCHEME" TO BE ANSWERED ON 10.02.2022.; ; (a): Ministry of Civil Aviation has launched Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)-UDAN scheme on 21-10-2016. Under the Scheme, 65 unserved and underserved airports including 8 Heliports & 2 Water Aerodromes have been operationalized. ; (b): UDAN is a market driven scheme. Interested airlines based on their assessment of demand on particular routes submit their proposals at the time of bidding under UDAN. In this Scheme, bidding rounds are conducted periodically for covering more destinations/stations in which interested airlines participate. Various incentives including the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) is offered to Selected Airline Operators (SAOs) as per the Scheme document. An airport which is included in the awarded routes of UDAN and requires upgradation/development for commencement of RCS operations is developed under "Revival of unserved and underserved airports" scheme. An expenditure of INR 2307 Crores has been incurred on revival / up-gradation of RCS airports as on 30.11.2021 ; (c): New airports/heliports, namely, Rewa, Rangeilunda, Fursatganj, Vijayapura, Shivamogga, Tura, Sohra, WilliamNagar & Dawki, have been awarded for operation of RCS flights in the year 2021.
