Question : CORRUPTION IN IMMIGRATION DEPARTMENT



(a) whether there is a large scale corruption among officers and employees of immigration department deployed at airports;

(b) if so, the number of such complaints received during the last three years, till date; and

(c) the steps taken/proposed to be taken by the Government to check such activities so far?

(a) to (c): As per available information, thirteen complaints relating to corruption/bribery against immigration officials at the major International airports, viz. Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Amritsar, were registered during the years 2005, 2006 and 2007 (till date). All these complaints were enquired into and on the basis of the findings in three cases, three officials were suspended and departmental action was taken against them. In the remaining 10 cases, the allegations were not substantiated.
